My first job was as an Executive Assistant to MD in a pharma company Group called Cosme Matias Menezes group in Goa ,India. It was my first insight into the pharmaceutical industry.

My Zonal Manager once told me that ‘’the key to success as a pharma professional is knowledge and perseverance “and I have instilled that concept ever since and always advice my team members on the same.

Spending time with my family is one of the biggest ways that I relax and ensuring that I maintain a healthy balance between my work and my family is important for me. In the next 10 years, I see the company having had a dominant presence in major markets within the region in all major categories of the private and public distribution network.Increased product portfolio with introduction of high end medicines and brands that will cater to emerging disease patterns. Up gradation of capacity and quality in our products with special emphasis on human resources being an integral part of the development.
9. What are some of challenges facing pharmaceutical industry in Kenya?
The Pharmaceutical Industry like all other industries are faced with challenges relating to the market, workforce, competition and manufacturing issues but there are some challenges we face as a local manufacturer although we are always supported by Pharmacy and Poisons Board to minimize them. The competition from imported goods being brought into the country is our biggest challenge which give us competition on prices as we are not on level playing fields and this makes us hesitant on taking risks in increasing the product basket.

10. What is your message to other aspiring pharmaceutical manufacturers /Pharmacists?
The pharmaceutical industry is an ever growing and dynamic industry. The potential is very huge manufacturing as well as in trading. A career for an individual or a business proposal entrepreneur is welcoming to the industry. Innovation, sustenance and systematic operations by being proactive is a key component of success and I would advise people to be objective and success shall follow.
